Redondo Beach Pier! What's Your Favorite Thing About Your Body?
Redondo Beach Pier, Redondo Beach, CA | Saturday, August 8th, 2026 | 12:30-3:30pm
This day was the first day I whipped out my newly purchased tripod to try capturing more of my interactions. I’d been wanting to do this for a while now but was nervous how it would be received: ~*girl with sign filming herself*~ makes me cringe slightly. And how would people receive my message if they saw a camera? Would they be more willing to share? Would the fact that I’m filming take away from my mission?
I decided I needed to try it and see…
So I drove on down to the pier with my sign and tripod and decided I’d stand at the crossroads outside of Old Tony’s.
I confidently set up my tripod near a statue, so it sort of blended in with a piece of concrete and would protect it from accidentally being knocked into.
I hit record, grabbed my sign, took a breath, and smiled to remind myself no matter what happens, my mission to spread this question to as many people as I can is what’s keeping me grounded.
People, like usual, started to respond right away. I was finding a new cadence of asking if they wanted to share on camera or not. (Can you tell consent is important to me?) And people were open to it! It was very fun to experience, and I almost immediately started to loosen up and embrace me new fate.

“What’s Your Favorite Thing About Your Body?”
LOCATION: Redondo Beach Pier - Redondo Beach, CA
DATE: Saturday, August 8th, 2026
TIME: 12:30-:30pm
Answers I heard:
My hair
My eyes
My heart
My biceps
My lips
My feet
My brain
My face
My hands
My middle finger
My abs and my chest
Direct quotes:
“I’m ambulatory - that I can walk around on my own two feet. The fact that I’m autonomous still.”
“I don’t have a favorite part.”
“My heart because it’s full of compassion, love, and giving back to my community.”
“The whole thing.”
“I’m young and healthy and can come out and fish.”
“It allows me to walk every day, get up in the morning, and do the things I need to do to survive.”
“I just lost 55 pounds, so I’m embracing all of it!”
“All parts of my body, they’re mine!”
“I don’t have a favorite thing. Not really anymore…”
As always, I hold so much gratitude for those who shared with me. This question isn’t always an easy one to answer, and I’m honored to be a witness to so many beautiful responses this day.
My favorite thing about my body that day was… my ability to manage discomfort and risk embarrassment. It’s not always easy to continue to put myself out there with my sign, and I’m proud of myself for feeling nervous about the tripod but trying it anyways.
It’s safe to say the tripod will be here to stay. I will still capture people holding my phone in my hands as I did before, but I will definitely be implementing the tripod into my sign days a whole lot more. So stay tuned for this!!!
