Your Relationship With Your Body Cannot be All or Nothing
Black and white thinking is ruining your ability to befriend your body.
Hustle culture. Go-go-go. Days filled to the brim. Pushing yourself to the limit. Doing the most. Not taking no for an answer. Overexertion. Being the best. Competing with yourself and others. Hyper-productivity. Always saying yes. Self-worth wrapped up in our ability to perform. Lack of balance. Unrealistic expectations. Grind > relaxation. Constant desire to accomplish, accomplish, accomplish.
These are all qualities of the current society we live in. We grow up learning these qualities. We implement them into our lives. Until one day we realize this is no way to live, or worse, we break.
Our relationship with your body cannot be all or nothing. It’s unsafe. It’s unhealthy (physically and mentally). It’s doing more harm than help.
I don’t know about you, but I really want to befriend my body. I want to be so close with her that I can hear her every whisper - hear the ways she subtly tells me I’m unsafe or feeling under the weather or maybe shouldn’t date that guy or go into a full wheel in yoga that day. I want to be so in tune with her that she’s my life guide - illuminating my path forward, so I can make decisions that actually support myself. I want to be so close with my body that she’s my bestie - I don’t need to seek solace in anyone else to feel whole. This concept runs pretty deep.
Our bodies are really, truly magical, incredible, living, breathing things. And I firmly believe we don’t give them enough credit. We look past all of their amazing attributes and jump right to what’s wrong with them. We do this alllll of the time, in so many ways. It’s psychologically so much easier to look for the bad than the good - but that’s no way to live!!!
I challenge you to start looking for the good in your body. Every single day. Find one thing that amazes you or blows your mind. I promise it’ll start to shift things for you. And if this was a helpful mindset shift/exercise, report back!

Do you have a friend, family member or peer who might love this too? I’d be honored if you could help me spread the word about my writing and body image conversations!
While I’m not a licensed therapist, registered dietician, or medical health professional and cannot speak to body image topics from a clinical, trauma-informed place, I am an expert of lived experience. I’m an academic of my own body, and I’m passionate about facilitating conversations with other humans about their relationships with their bodies. I believe it’s important to continue conversations about healthy body image in creative spaces as a means to heal individuals as well as the collective whole. But just know the information presented in this medium is not professional mental health advice or medical advice, and any questions or concerns you have should always be directed to your healthcare providers.

Love this Megan! Thank you for the reminder. <3
